What is a Domain Name?
A domain name is a unique name assigned to every web site on the Internet in order that people can remember or find a particular web site easily and quickly. Without a domain name, Internet users around the world would not be able to find your web site in the vastness of cyberspace. Web sites are usually accessed by typing "www." and a domain name (e.g., company.com) in a web browser. The browser then looks up the domain name in the InterNIC database in order to locate the site. Domain names can contain letters, numbers or hyphens. No spaces or other characters are allowed.
What is an IP address?
Domain names are linked to a numerical address called an IP address (e.g., 66.199.128.123). A domain name server (DNS) is used to translate a domain name into an IP address.
How do I get my own domain name?
Simply enter your desired domain name in the field "Register my domain name" on the Sign-up page.
If you have several domain names, we can point each of them to your web site. This service is free for SnapHost.com customers.
Do you host foreign domains?
Yes. We can host a domain name with any country extension.
Can I get a domain such as anything.mydomain.com?
Yes. This is called a sub-domain. If you want the sub-domain to point to the same web site as your main domain name, there is no charge. You can have up to 10 sub-domains pointed to your main domain name.
If you want the sub-domain to point to a separate web site, you would be using a sub-domain as its own web site. This would require that you have a separate account, which would result in an additional charge.
I own other domain names that I want to point toward my web site. Can you do this?
Yes. We can point up to 10 domain names to your web site.
However, if you require any services for an additional domain name other than simply pointing to your web site, you must establish a new account for that domain name.
